program
when
a
colleague
asked
what
I
would
do
if
I
had
an
extra
hour
every
day.
Without
much
consideration,
I
said
I
would
use
it
to
help
others.
The
question
kept
coming
to
my
mind.
Like
many
graduate
students,
I
was
overwhelmed
(难以承受的)with
research,
teaching,
coursework,
and
some
attempt
at
a
personal
life.
Still,
I
asked
myself,
"Do
I
really
need
a
25th
hour
to
help
other
people-or
do
I
need
to
make
better
use
of
the
24
hours
I
have?"
I
needed
something
to
help
me
return
to
my
old
self.
After
that
conversation
with
my
colleague,
I
googled
(谷歌搜索)"volunteer
opportunities
near
me”.
A
local
organization
that
drives
people
to
stores
or
appointments
was
looking
for
volunteers.
Having
grown
up
in
a
rural
village
where
everyone
knew
one
another
and
my
grandparents
were
always
close
by,
I
thought
serving
senior
citizens
in
my
new
hometown
might
be
just
what
I
needed.
A
short
time
later,
I
started
to
volunteer
for
an
organization
that
provides
transportation
for
senior
citizens
and
people
with
disabilities.
To
my
surprise,
adding
this
activity
to
my
busy
life
was
just
what
I
needed
to
calm
the
confusion
I
was
feeling
as
a
first-generation
international
graduate
student.
I
started
to
volunteer
about
3
hours
every
weekend,
the
time
I
otherwise
would
have
wasted
oversleeping
or
scrolling(滚屏)through
social
media.
Sharing
stories
with
my
riders
was
much
more
rewarding.
What
they
told
me
about
their
lives
helped
me
realize
that
in
every
corner
of
the
world,
humans
are
connected
with
the
language
of
emotions.
And
seeing
how
eager
my
riders
were
to
spend
time
out
and
about
inspired
me
to
think
about
how
to
spend
my
time,
which
used
to
slip
away.
My
previously
overwhelming
schedule
began
to
feel
manageable.
I'm
proud
of
who
I
have
become,
and
I
continue
to
reflect
on
how
I'm
using
the
most
valuable
thing
in
life
:
my
time.

Poaching
(偷猎)and
habitat
loss
have
threatened
Africa's
two
species
of
elephants,
taking
them
closer
toward
the
edge
of
disappearance,
according
to
a
new
report
released
by
the
International
Union
for
Conservation
of
Nature
(IUCN).
Before
this
update,
Africa's
elephants
were
grouped
together
and
were
evaluated
as
vulnerable
(易受伤害
的)by
the
IUCN.
This
is
the
first
time
the
two
species
have
been
sorted
separately.
In
the
past,
elephants
were
mostly
considered
as
either
Asian
elephants
or
African
elephants.
Forest
and
savanna
elephants
(稀树草原象)
were
typically
classified
as
subspecies
of
African
elephants.
The
African
forest
elephant
is
now
listed
as
critically
endangered
and
the
African
savanna
elephant
as
endangered.
The
number
of
African
forest
elephants
fell
by
more
than
86%
over
a
31
-year
assessment
period.
The
population
of
African
savanna
elephants
dropped
by
at
least
60%
over
the
last
50
years,
according
to
the
IUCN,
which
tracks
the
assessment
risk
of
the
world's
animals.
Africa
currently
has
an
estimated
415,000
elephants,
counting
the
two
species
together.
Both
elephant
species
experienced
significant
population
decreases
because
of
poaching.
Although
it
peaked
in
2011
,
illegal
hunting
still
happens
and
continues
to
threaten
elephant
populations.
African
elephants
also
face
continued
habitat
loss
as
their
land
is
converted
for
agriculture
or
other
uses.
There
is
some
good
conservation
news,
the
IUCN
points
out.
Anti-poaching
measures,
combined
with
better
land
use
planning
to
support
better
human-wildlife
relationships,
have
helped
conservation
efforts.
Some
forest
elephant
population
figures
have
stabilized
in
well-managed
areas
in
Gabon
and
the
Republic
of
Congo
and
savanna
population
figures
have
remained
stable
or
have
been
growing,
particularly
in
the
Kavango-Zambezi
Transfrontier
Conservation
Area
in
southern
Africa.
But
with
constant
demand
for
ivory
and
increasing
human
pressures
on
Africa's
wild
lands,
concern
for
Africa's
elephants
is
high,
and
the
need
to
creatively
conserve
and
wisely
manage
these
animals
and
their
habitats
is
more
severe
than
ever.
28.
What
can
be
inferred
from
the
new
report
about
African
elephants?
A.
They
are
divided
into
three
kinds.
B.
They
are
dying
out.
C.
Their
threat
is
mainly
from
poaching.
D.
Their
population
has
grown
in
Africa.
29.
What
does
the
author
mainly
tell
us
in
Paragraph
3?
A.
The
detailed
number
of
African
elephants.
B.
The
similarities
of
African
elephants.
q
The

types
of

D.
The

of

30.
What
does
the

word

in

probably
mean?
A.
Expanded.

to

Interested
in
learning
how
to
read
body
language?
Would
you
like
to
be
able
to
tell
when
people
are
lying
and
understand
people's
intentions?
36
Fingers
can
create
many
gestures
and
are
great
for
reading
body
language.
A
pointing
finger
can
either
be
someone
pointing
to
an
item
or
place,
it
can
also
indicate
anger.
If
someone
is
curling
(卷拢)their
fingers
tightly,
they
are
usually
praying
for
something.
37
The
faster
the
beating
is,
the
greater
the
tension
inside
the
person
may
be.
38
They
can
tell
so
much
information
about
the
person
if
you
know
what
you
are
looking
for.
As
in
most
situations,
the
same
signal
can
be
interpreted
in
a
different
way.
It
depends
entirely
on
the
circumstances
at
hand.
Open
eyes
may
mean
the
person
is
interested
in
the
topic
and
it
can
also
mean
that
the
person
is
confused.
The
eyebrows
(眉毛)have
many
uses.
39
When
the
eyebrows
are
raised,
normally
the
person
is
shocked
or
surprised.
The
greater
the
surprise,
the
more
raised
they
will
be.
When
someone
moves
their
eyebrow
up
and
down
quickly,
they
are
greeting
someone
else
or
are
showing
they
have
acknowledged
them.
Remember
reading
body
language
is
not
a
skill
that
can
be
learned
overnight.
40
Anyway,
body
language
is
the
most
important
language
you
can
learn.
A.
Listed
below
are
some
examples
of
the
uses.
B.
The
more
you
practice,
the
easier
it
will
become.
C.
If
you
do,
the
person
will
become
uncomfortable.
D.
Remember
the
eyes
can
make
the
wrong
evaluation.
E.
People
say
that
the
eyes
are
the
windows
to
the
soul.
F.
Knocking
or
tapping
with
the
fingers
indicates
nervousness.
G.
Body
language
gives
you
an
insight
into
what
others
might
be
thinking,

When
I
was
a
boy
growing
up
I
can't
remember
either
my
mom
or
my
grandmother
wasting
food.
Anything
we
didn't
eat
at
one
meal
was
41

stored,

later

I

a
large

We
would

there

I
learned

after

I

I
always
51
the

ahead

bought

第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Exercise
might
seem
like
a
chore
sometimes,
56
(particular)
when
we
get
told
so
often
that
we
should
exercise
more.
But
we
need
to
get
up
and
start
moving.
Many
of
us
spend
too
much
time
57
(
stare)
at
screens.
Most
teen
girls
don't
meet
the
standards
for
physical
activity.
Getting
58
(
scold)
about
this,
though,
doesn't
really
help.
And
that's
too
bad,
because
exercise
can
be
both
fun
and
good
for
the
body
and
the
brain.
Exercise
is
not
only
good
for
your
muscles,
59
good
for
your
bones.
Getting
exercise
60
(help)
teens
build
tough
bodies.
And
teens
who
exercise
more
often
grow
up
into
adults
with
much
61
(strong)
bones.
Exercise
can
increase
how
much
oxygen
and
blood
gets
to
the
brain,
and
even
how
the
brain
is
structured.
Working
62
can
produce
chemicals
in
our
bodies
that
might
help
prevent
depression.
And
a
workout
after
learning
something
can
help
us
form
and
keep
a
great
number
of
63
(
memory).
So
maybe
it's
no
surprise
64
so
many
scientists
study
exercise.
There
are
some
scientists,
for
instance,
who
study
what
makes
winning
runners
so
fast.
65
(
other)
study
running
lizards
and
astronauts
in
space
to
find
out
how
to
keep
humans
healthy
both
on
and
off
planet
Earth.

In
the
summer
of
2002,
Linda
was
about
to
enter
sixth
grade
after
having
recently
moved.
Being
new
to
town,
her
mother
decided
to
sign
her
up
for
Girl
Scouts
(女童子军).The
benefits
of
the
Girl
Scouts
were
well-known:
developing
leadership
skills,
creating
a
strong
sense
of
self,
encouraging
healthy
relationships
among
others.
One
of
the
most
important
parts
of
the
program
involved
developing
healthy
relationships,
often
leading
to
unbreakable
bonds,
sometimes
through
the
Buddy
(伙伴)Program.
Soon
Linda
joined
Pisgah
Girl
Scout
Camp
in
Brevard,
North
Carolina
t
where
she
was
paired
with
a
buddy
named
Rose
in
a
four-person
tent.
At
camp,
Linda
and
Rose's
lives
were
closely
connected
together.
As
a
Girl
Scout,
Linda
was
taught
to
have
someone
to
rely
on,
to
know
where
she
is
going,
to
talk
over
things,
and
to
make
friends.
Little
did
she
know
how
important
that
single
skill
would
be
in
her
life.
One
afternoon,
a
storm
blew
in
and
sent
the
girls
all
to
their
tents.
Lightning(闪电)struck
a
tree
outside
the
girls'
tent.
As
bad
luck
would
have
it,
Linda
had
been
standing
on
her
metal
bed
at
the
time.
Lightning
traveled
from
the
metal
clothesline
between
that
tree
and
another
one-burning
all
the
bathing
suits-went
down
into
the
tree
roots,
which
were
tied
up
into
the
floorboards
of
the
tents,
and
hit
her
bed.
Very
soon,
two-thirds
of
Linda's
body
was
burned.
Linda
was
lying
on
the
floor
badly
burned
and
unable
to
move.
The
other
three
girls
in
the
tent
were
frightened
to
death.
They
screamed
and
ran
from
the
tent,
not
noticing
what
was
happening
to
Linda,
but
Rose
quickly
realized
her
buddy
was
not
among
them.
