Cold

But
here
are
four
cities
around
the
world
that
make
for
a

Prague,
Czech
Republic
With
its
snow-capped

Prague
is
a
fairytale
city
that
remains
relatively
tourist-free
in
winter.

with
one
of

performed
for
the

in
the

of
Oberndorf
on
the

of
Salzburg
on
Christmas
Eve
in
1818.
The
city's
main
market
is
held

Salzburg's
Hohensalzburg

Tromso
is
widely
regarded
as
Norway's
most

city
and
is
a
base
for

There
are
several
attractive
museums,
including
the
Polar

which
offers
an
insight
into
the
history
of
Arctic
expeditions,
and
the
Tromso

which
is

for
its

Thursday
were
greeted
by
two
children
holding
the
injured
bald
eagle
and
seeking
help,
according
to
the
station’s
Facebook
page.
The
firefighters
called
Owl’s

Sanctuary
(保护区)for
Wildlife
in
Odessa
for
assistance
and
a
volunteer

out
to
help.
"It
appears
that
the
eagle
was
wrapped
in
the
line
for
about
two
days,
was
underweight,
and
thirsty,”
the
post
said.
Florida
has
one
of
the
densest
concentrations
of
nesting
bald
eagles
in
the
lower
48
states
with
an
estimated
1
,500
nesting
pairs
according
to
the
Florida
Fish
and
Wildlife
Conservation
Commission.
Pasco
County
is
located
in
the
state's
west
central
coast
north
of

a
container
and
taken
to
the
sanctuary
for
treatment
where
Kris
Potter,
the
sanctuary's
director,
successfully
removed
the
hook.
The
sanctuary
posted
on
its
Facebook
page
that
the
eagle
is
making
up
for
lost
time
when
it
comes
to
food.
"He's
eating
all
his
meals
with
great
enthusiasm

the
post
said.
"In
the
meantime,
this

After
the
eagle
is
considered
stable,
it
will
be
taken
to
Busch
Gardens
in
Tampa
for
further
treatment,
according
to
the
post.

Thankfully
the
eagle
appears
in
good
health
and
veterinarians

that
the
eagle
will

the
post
said.
When
the

about
the
outcome
of
the
event?
A.
It's
unexpected.
B.
It's
beautiful.
C.
It's
humorous.
D.
It's
discouraging.
C
It
was
once
considered
an
important
status
symbol
---
but
having
a
home
phone
is
increasingly
seen
as
a
white
elephant.
New
figures
show
that
one
in
five
households
no
longer
bother
with
a
landline
(固定电话),and
almost
a
third
of
those
that
do
never
actually
use
it.
The
vast
majority
of
people
who
still
have
a
home
phone
——72
percent
——say
they
only
have
it
because
it
is
part
of
their
broadband
package.
But
that's
not
the
only
reason
to
desert
the
home
phone
-
20
percent
of
those
surveyed
said
that
they
were
fed
up
with
the
number
of
cold
calls
and
would-be
scammers
(诈骗者).
Digital
media
expert
Dr.
Elinor
Carmi
said
there
was
a
generational
and
social
divide
in
phone
use.
She
explained:
"If
you
,
re
young
and
have
the
mobility
to
go
outside,
you
would
rely
on
a
mobile
phone.
But
if
you
are
older,
disabled
and
perhaps
poorer,
our
research
shows
you're
more
likely
to
use
a
landline.
If
you
are
richer,
you
will
have
access
to
more
smart
devices
---
a
smart
TV,
smartphone
or
laptop.
But
the
poorer
you
are
---
or
if
you
are
older,
your
use
of
these
devices
is
more
limited.”
Last
year,
research
from
regulator
Ofcom
found
that
the
amount
of
time
spent
on
landline
calls
annually
in
the
UK
had
halved
over
just
six
years,
to
54
billion
minutes.
The
new
study
also
showed
that
more
than
a
quarter
of
households
have
decided
to
find
a
broadband
provider
that
does
not
charge
for
their
unused
landline,
but
only
six
percent
have
done
so.

to
something
that
is
A.
costly
but
effective
B.
useful
and
beautiful
C.
expensive
but
useless
D.
cheap
and
necessary
9.
What's
the
main
reason
why
some
people
still
have
a
home

A.
Their
broadband
package
contains
it.
B.
Their
family
can
only
afford
to
use
it.
C.
They
are
used
to
using
a
home
phone.
D.
They
consider
it
an
important
status
symbol.
10.
Which
of
the
following
is
more
likely
to

A.
A
young

B.
An
old
poor

C.
An

D.
A
famous

Smart
speakers
have
proven
to
be
handy
devices
in
hospitals,
allowing
patients
to
control
independently
.
And
now,
researchers
from
the
University
of
Washington
have
developed
an
artificial
intelligence
system
that
enables
these
devices
to
monitor
heartbeats.
Using
technology
to
remotely
monitor
heart
rates
isn't
new.
These
days
most
smartwatches
and
fitness
trackers
are
capable
of
it.
The
good
thing
here
is
that
researchers
have
figured
out
a
way
to
use
the
microphones
in
smart
speakers
to
do
it
without
requiring
physical
contact.
In
a
study
published
in
Communications
Biology,
the
researchers
had
the
smart
speakers
send
out
signals
that
couldn't
be
heard
which
were
then
reflected
off
a
person's
body.
They
then
analyzed
these
signals
to
identify
small
chest
wall
motions
related
to
heartbeats,
as
well
as
separate
those
signals
from
surrounding
noise
and
breathing.
For
this
particular
proof

of

concept
setup,
the
researchers
tested
this
smart
speaker
on
26
healthy
participants
and
24
hospitalized
patients
with
various
heart
conditions,
including
atrial
fibrillation
(心
房颤动)and
heart
failure.
In
both
cases,
the
smart
speaker
was
within
28
-
30
milliseconds
of
an
ECG
(心电图),the
gold
standard
used
in
hospitals
to
discover
arrhythmia
(心律不齐).
Like
smartwatches
with
advanced
heart
features,
using
smart
speakers
in
this
way
opens
up
the
possibility
for
passive,
remote
heart
monitoring.
ECGs,
while
highly
accurate,
require
a
visit
to
the
doctor
and
several
electrodes
(电极)to
be
placed
on
the
body.
They,
re
not
capable
of
continuous
monitoring
so
you're
limited
to
what
it
picks
up
at
that
exact
moment
in
time
——one
reason
why
heart
arrhythmia
can
be
so
hard
to
discover.
Smartwatches
are
capable
of
passive,
remote,
continuous
monitoring,
but
they
require
you
to
wear
the
device
at
all
times
to
be
effective.
It's
not
something
that's
comfortable
for
everyone,
especially
when
it
comes
to
sleep
and
for
those
with
highly
sensitive
skin.
Another
issue
is
that
these
advanced
smartwatches
are
expensive,
while
smart
speakers
are
much
cheaper.
“If
you
have
a
device
like
this,
you
can
monitor
a
patient
on
an
extended
basis
and
then
develop
corresponding
care
plans
that
satisfy
the
patient'
s
needs,“
said
Dr.
Arun
Sridhar,
co

senior
author
on
the
study.
"And
the
beauty
of
using
this
kind
of
devices
is
that
they
are
already
in
people's
homes.”
12.
What
does
the
author
focus
on
in
Paragraph
3?
A.
How
the
smart
speaker
works.
B.
Why
the
smart
speaker
is
useful.
C.
The
advantages
of
smart
speakers.
D.
The
importance
of
the
study.
13.
Why
is
heart
arrhythmia
difficult
to
find?
A.
ECGs
are
not
highly
accurate.
B.
ECGs
can't
monitor
continuously.
C.
Doctors
know
little
about
heart
arrhythmia.
D.
An
ECG
test
is
hard
to
operate
and
expensive.
14.
Which
statement
best
explains
the
characteristics
of
smartwatches?
A.
They
are
comfortable
to
wear.
B.
They
are
friendly
to
sensitive
skin.
C.
They
are
effective
and
cheap.
D.
They
are
able
to
monitor
remotely.
15.
What
can
we
infer
from
the
last
paragraph?
A.
We
need
to
invent
more
smart
devices.
B.
Care
plans
are
vital
to
patients
with
heart
failure.
C.
Smart
speakers
could
be
contactless
heart
monitors.
D.
Different
devices
are
needed
to
meet
patients,
demands.

These
surfers
have
been
recognized
as
heroes
after
they
came
to
the
rescue
of
two
drowning
swimmers
last
month.
Adrian
York
and
his
friends
had
already
been
21
some
waves
at
Trinidad
State
Beach
for
several
hours
when
they
decided
to
take
a
break.
As
they
were
resting
in
the
22
waters,
however,
they
began
hearing
cries
for
23
.
Since
it
had
been
a
particularly
24
evening,
the
15-
and
16-year-old
boys
had
to
look
through
the
mist
to
locate
the
source
of
the
yelling.
They
then
25
two
swimmers
who
were
26
in
the
ocean
with
their
27
barely
held
above
water
100
feet
away.
The
surfers
---
two
of
whom
had
been
through
28
training
-
knew
that
the
swimmers
did
not
have
a
long
time
before
they
fell
29
to
hypothermia
(体温过低),so
they
30
jumped
into
action.
While
York
quickly
headed
back
to
31
to
call
911,
the
other
three
swam
quickly
to
the
swimmers
and
helped
them
onto
their
boards.
The

that
the
swimmers

two
brothers
who

wearing
the

swimwear
for
such
cold
waters.
They
had
been
playing
in
the

since
the
beach
had
been
so
foggy,
the
brothers,
parents
had
not
been
able
to
spot
them
in
the
mist.
Though
it
had
been
difficult
to
calm
the
34
brothers
and
get
them
onto
the
surfboards
--
particularly
because
one
of
the
brothers
reportedly
weighed
an
estimated
250
pounds
--the
group
was
35
able
to
get
everyone
safely
to
shore.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jackson
did
not
feel
good
so
he
stayed
home
from
school
today.
He
did
not
like
to
be
sick.
It
was
no
fun
at
all.
He
got
out
of
his
bed
and
walked
into
his
brother's
bedroom.
Carter
loved
cars.
He
had
them
all
over
his
room.
One
sat
on
his
desk
in
many
pieces.
Carter
loved
putting
model
cars
together.
Jackson
touched
one
of
the
black
tires.
He
hoped
Carter
was
home.
Carter
liked
to
talk
about
the
model
cars
as
he
was
putting
them
together.
Jackson
left
Carter's
room
and
walked
down
the
hall
to
the
room
his
twin
sisters
shared.
Ella
liked
wearing
pretty
clothes
and
Madison
liked
riding
her
horse.
Ella's
side
of
the
room
was
nice
and
neat.
Madison's
side
was
a
mess.
Ella
decorated
the
wall
behind
her
bed
with
pictures
of
girls
in
fancy
clothes.
A
big
poster
of
a
horse
was
on
the
wall
behind
Madison,
s
bed.
Jackson
turned
and
walked
back
out
of
the
room,
tripping
over
Madison,
s
cowboy
boots
as
he
did.
He
didn't
fall
down,
but
it
was
close.
As
he
stood
there,
trying
to
remember
what
it
was
called,
he
realized
all
of
his
brother's
and
sisters'
rooms
looked
like
the
things
they
loved.
Carter
had
cars
in
his
room

Ella
loved
fashion
and
Madison
horses.
Jackson
wondered
what
his
room
said
about
him.
He
walked
back
down
the
hall
and
stood
in
the
doorway
of
his
room.
His
bed
was
a
mess.
But
he
just
got
out
of
it,
so
that
was
normal.
There
was
a
racetrack
on
his
floor,
a
barn
(谷仓)
he
made
out
of
toy
logs,
a
plastic
hat
that
was
part
of
a
magic
trick
set
he
got
for
his
birthday,
and
a
couple
of
plastic
dinosaurs
lying
on
their
sides.
His
walls
were
bare.
He
felt
a
little
down.
