Unit 4 The hamburger business
In 1948, two brothers, Mac and Dick McDonald started their hamburger business with the name McDonald’s. The team of young workers were cheerful, fast and polite. The food was delicious with everything neat and in order, so it was popular with customers. Later, an American businessman called Ray Kroc asked the brothers to allow him to open more McDonald’s in other places. That was the start of the biggest fast-food company in history. In 1955, Kroc opened his first McDonald’s near Chicago and many more after that. Because of the motto “Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value”, McDonald’s has developed quickly all over the world from then on. By 1972, a new McDonald’s was being opened every day, and by 1974 there was over 3,000 restaurants. By 2005, McDonald’s has over 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries and regions. (137 words)
