I
Don't

by
Sarah
Ruhl
(2014)
Seemingly
a
collection
of
essays
on
theater,
Ruhl's
book
feels
instead
like
the
playwright's
thoughts
all

Her
writing

is
deeply
personal,
sharply
argued
but
also
playful.

When
Rich
Jean
wanted
to
help
his
daughter,
Abigail,
learn
to
read,
he
took
her
to
the
library
near
their
home
in
Brooklyn,
N.
Y.
That's
where
they
met
Hasina
Islam,
who
Jean
says
arose
her
interest
in
reading
and
the
library.
“You
see
what
you
started?
You
see
that
spark
that
you
put
in
this
child?”
Jean
told
Hasina
Islam
at
a
StoryCorps
conversation
in
2016.
At
the
time,
Abigail
was
7
and
Islam
was
27.
Their
friendship
began
when
Abigail
was
3.
Through
the
years,
Islam
has
offered
book
suggestions
that
Abigail
has
read
with
great
enthusiasm.
“What's
cool
is
that
Hasina
has
recommended
a
lot
of
books
that
I,
at
the
time,
thought
might
be
a
little
too
advanced
for
you,"
Jean
told
Abigail.
“Like
Charlie
and
the
Chocolate
Factory."
Abigail
said.
Islam's
own
love
of
the
library
was
sparked
when
she
was
in
the
third
grade.
She
lived
near
the
main
branch
of
the
Queens
Public
Library
in
New
York
City,
and
she
went
there
to
research
Henry
Hudson,
an
English
explorer,
for
a
school
project.
"The
librarian
made
me
feel
so
special.
She
remembered
my
name,
and
my
favorite
thing
was
that
she
gave
me
book
recommendations,"
she
said."
When
I
was
graduating
from
college,
I
thought
about
how
I
was
going
to
make
a
difference
in
the
world.
And
I
remembered
my
librarian,and
I
remembered
that
feeling
that
she
gave
me
every
single
time
I
went
to
the
library.

Islam's
special
college
life.

Islam's
working

D.

C
It
was
once
a
shoreline
buried
by
enough
garbage
to
make
it
invisible
(看不见的),
thus,
given
the
unfortunate
nickname
"toilet
bowl"
.
Now
the
Philippines'
Manila
Bay
beach
is
totally
different,
compared
with
a
few
months
ago.
It
happened
so
suddenly
and
extremely
that
it
brought
tears
to
the
eyes
of
the
local
people.
The
cleanup
started
on
27
January,
when
5,
000
volunteers
descended
on
Manila
Bay
to
remove
over
45
tons
(公吨)
of
garbage,
marking
the
beginning
of
a
nation-wide
environmental
campaign.
But
some
two
months
before
this
great
movement
began,
a
quiet
revolution
was
already
underway.
During
the
first
week
of
December
2018,
Brooklyn-
based
Bounties
Network
collected
three
tons
of
garbage
from
Manila
Bay
aver
two
days
through
a
project
that
paid
a
small
group
of
people,
mostly
fishermen,
with
a
digital
currency
(数字货币)
based
on
the
Ethereum
system.
For
the
mostly
non-bank
-using
Filipino
fishermen,
this
was
a
first-ever
experience
with
a
digital
currency.
It's
one
that
proves
decisive
in
enabling
poor
communities
around
the
world
to
take
up
arms
in
the
fight
against
humanity's
waste.
There
are
signs
that
this
recycling-for-digital
payment
industry
may
be
just
about
to
take
off.
Earlier
in
September
2018,
Plastic
Bank,
a
Vancouver
-based
company
powered
by
IBM
technology,
also
started
a
similar
project.
They
set
up
a
project
in
Naga,
a
town
in
southern
Luzon,
the
country's
largest
island,
building
a
collection
point
to
let
people
exchange
plastic
and
recyclable
materials
for
digital
payouts
through
a
system.
That
both
these
pioneers
have
chosen
the
Philippines
as
their
first
location
is
not
surprising
considering
the
country's
contribution
to
ocean
waste.
A
Wall
Street
Journal
study
in
2015
revealed
that
the
Philippines
make
the
third-largest
amount
of
plastic
waste
into
global
oceans.

willing
to

to
their
homeland.

a
difference.

to

For
decades,
an
organization,
called
Ulum
Dalska,
based
in
a
small
Swedish
town
called
Alvdalen,
has
been
working
hard
to
help
save
a
language
called
EIfdalian.
Elfdalian
sounds
nothing
like
the
country's
national
language,
Swedish,
which
press
secretary
Bjorm
Rehnstrom
said
affected
the
language
about
100
years
ago.
At
that
point,
Elfdalian
declined.
Ulla
Schitt,
also
a
Ulum
Dalska
member,
experienced
the
change
while
growing
up
in
Alvdalen.
“My
parents
spoke
Efdalian
with
each
other,
and
with
my
grandma
and
my
aunts
and
uncles
and
everyone
around,”Schit
said.
“But
when
they
turned
to
me,
they
spoke
Swedish.”
Schitt
said
her
parents
spoke
Swedish
with
her
because
that's
what
was
spoken
in
schools.
But
people
are
getting
creative
in
the
fight
to
change
that
trend.
Musicians
are
creating
new
songs
with
Elfdalian.
Several
children's
books
were
also
translated
into
EIfdalian,
including
Le
Petit
Prince
by
Antoine
de
Saint-Exupery.
Additionally,
Bjorm
Rehnstrom
helps
run
a
popular
Facebook
group
that
offers
courses
in
the
Elfdalian
language,
where
he
offers
lessons
to
the
group's
1,800
global
members
from
America,
Australia,
South
America,
Indonesia,
Haiti
and
Cape
Verde.
The
local
government
supports
the
teaching
and
preservation
of
Elfdalian.
Bjom
Rehnstrom
said
they
eagerly
paid
for
a
sign
that
reads:
“Welcome
to
Alvdalen”
in
Elfdalian.
But
the
national
government
of
Sweden
is
a
different
story.
They
currently
consider
Eidalian
a
dialect
of
Swedish,
not
its
own
language.
Schitt
said
every
time
a
language
dies
it
is
a
sad
moment.
To
her,
losing
Elfdalian
would
be
an
especially
tragic
(悲剧的)
loss.
“It's
a
part
of
our
identity.
It's
part
of
our
culture,”
she
said.
“And
if
part
of
your
identity
and
culture
dies,
a
part
of
yourself
dies.”
Getting
Elfdalian
recognized
as
a
language
by
the
Swedish
government,
she
added,
is
key
to
making
sure
that
death
doesn't
come.
32.
Why
was
Ulum
Dalska
founded?
A.
To
teach
Swedish.
B.
To
save
Elfdalian.
C.
To
improve
Alvdalen.
D.
To
help
schools.
33.
Why
Schitt's
parents
spoke
Swedish
with
her?
A.
They
could
only
speak
Swedish
fluently.
B.
Schitt
longed
to
speak
Swedish
at
home.
C.
Swedish
was
the
language
of
schools.
D.
It
was
required
by
her
school
teachers,
34.
What
can
we
infer
from
paragraph
4?
A.
Many
people
are
trying
to
help
to
save
Elfdalian.
B.
Songs
in
Elfdalian
are
becoming
more
popular.
C.
Le
Petit
Prince
was
translated
into
various
languages.
D.
Courses
in
Eldalian
are
provided
to
the
world
freely.
35.
What
does
Schitt
think
of
preserving
Elfdalian?
A.
Satisfactory.
B.
Vital.
C.
Dangerous.
D.
Meaningless.

It
was

shoreline
buried
by
enough
garbage
to
make
it
invisible
(看不见的),
thus,
given
the
unfortunate
nickname

.
Now
the
Philippines'
Manila
Bay
beach
is
totally
different,
compared
with
a
few
months
ago.
It
happened
so
suddenly
and
extremely
that
it
brought
tears
to
the
eyes
of
the
local
people.
The
cleanup
started
on
27
January,
when
5,
000
volunteers
descended
on
Manila
Bay
to
remove
over
45
tons
(公吨)
of
garbage,
marking
the
beginning
of
a
nation-wide
environmental
campaign.
But
some
two
months
before
this
great
movement
began,
a
quiet
revolution
was
already
underway.
During
the
first
week
of
December
2018,
Brooklyn-
based
Bounties
Network
collected
three
tons
of
garbage
from
Manila
Bay
aver
two
days
through
a
project
that
paid
a
small
group
of
people,
mostly
fishermen,
with
a
digital
currency
(数字货币)
based
on
the
Ethereum
system.
For
the
mostly
non-bank
-using
Filipino
fishermen,
this
was
a
first-ever
experience
with
a
digital
currency.
It's
one
that
proves
decisive
in
enabling
poor
communities
around
the
world
to
take
up
arms
in
the
fight
against
humanity's
waste.
There
are
signs
that
this
recycling-for-digital
payment
industry
may
be
just
about
to
take
off.
Earlier
in
September
2018,
Plastic
Bank,
a
Vancouver
-based
company
powered
by
IBM
technology,
also
started
a
similar
project.
They
set
up
a
project
in
Naga,
a
town
in
southern
Luzon,
the
country's
largest
island,
building
a
collection
point
to
let
people
exchange
plastic
and
recyclable
materials
for
digital
payouts
through
a
system.
That
both
these
pioneers
have
chosen
the
Philippines
as
their
first
location
is
not
surprising
considering
the
country's
contribution
to
ocean
waste.
A
Wall
Street
Journal
study
in
2015
revealed
that
the
Philippines
make
the
third-largest
amount
of
plastic
waste
into
global
oceans.

Manila

【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文可知,本文由被戏称为“抽水马桶”的Manila

D
For
decades,
an
organization,
called
Ulum
Dalska,
based
in
a
small
Swedish
town
called
Alvdalen,
has
been
working
hard
to
help
save
a
language
called
EIfdalian.
Elfdalian
sounds
nothing
like
the
country's
national
language,
Swedish,
which
press
secretary
Bjorm
Rehnstrom
said
affected
the
language
about
100
years
ago.
At
that
point,
Elfdalian
declined.
Ulla
Schitt,
also
a
Ulum
Dalska
member,
experienced
the
change
while
growing
up
in
Alvdalen.
“My
parents
spoke
Efdalian
with
each
other,
and
with
my
grandma
and
my
aunts
and
uncles
and
everyone
around,”Schit
said.
“But
when
they
turned
to
me,
they
spoke
Swedish.”
Schitt
said
her
parents
spoke
Swedish
with
her
because
that's
what
was
spoken
in
schools.
But
people
are
getting
creative
in
the
fight
to
change
that
trend.
Musicians
are
creating
new
songs
with
Elfdalian.
Several
children's
books
were
also
translated
into
EIfdalian,
including
Le
Petit
Prince
by
Antoine
de
Saint-Exupery.
Additionally,
Bjorm
Rehnstrom
helps
run
a
popular
Facebook
group
that
offers
courses
in
the
Elfdalian
language,
where
he
offers
lessons
to
the
group's
1,800
global
members
from
America,
Australia,
South
America,
Indonesia,
Haiti
and
Cape
Verde.
The
local
government
supports
the
teaching
and
preservation
of
Elfdalian.
Bjom
Rehnstrom
said
they
eagerly
paid
for
a
sign
that
reads:
“Welcome
to
Alvdalen”
in
Elfdalian.
But
the
national
government
of
Sweden
is
a
different
story.
They
currently
consider
Eidalian
a
dialect
of
Swedish,
not
its
own
language.
Schitt
said
every
time
a
language
dies
it
is
a
sad
moment.
To
her,
losing
Elfdalian
would
be
an
especially
tragic
(悲剧的)
loss.
“It's
a
part
of
our
identity.
It's
part
of
our
culture,”
she
said.
“And
if
part
of
your
identity
and
culture
dies,
a
part
of
yourself
dies.”
Getting
Elfdalian
recognized
as
a
language
by
the
Swedish
government,
she
added,
is
key
to
making
sure
that
death
doesn't
come.
32.
Why
was
Ulum
Dalska
founded?
A.
To
teach
Swedish.
B.
To
save
Elfdalian.
C.
To
improve
Alvdalen.
D.
To

schools.
33.
Why
Schitt's
parents
spoke
Swedish
with
her?
A.
They
could
only
speak
Swedish
fluently.
B.
Schitt
longed
to
speak
Swedish
at
home.
C.
Swedish
was
the
language
of

D.
It
was

by
her

34.
What
can

infer
from

【分析】这是一篇应用文。作者写了一则书面通知,通知参观孔子庙的相关事宜。
【详解】1.考查冠词。句意:为了帮助您进一步了解中国文化,我们学校将组织一次去孔子庙的旅游。trip“旅游”是可数名词,根据句意,此处泛指“一次去孔子庙的旅游”,且trip是以辅音音素开头词,应用a。故trip前加a。
2.考查代词。句意:我想和你分享一些有关它的细节。根据语境,此处指代上文提的的“去孔子庙的旅游”,用代词it。故them改为it。
3.考查动词。句意:我们将按计划,于星期四上午七点半在学校门口开会。根据时间状语“at
7:30
a.
m.
on
Thursday”可知,用一般将来时,will后接动词原形。故去掉meet前的to。
4.考查连词。句意:我们首先参观孔子庙,在那里我们可以了解孔子,对中国传统文化更深入的了解。根据句意,上下文是并列关系,不是转折关系。故but改为and。
5.考查名词。句意:然后,我们将参观几座古建筑。building“建筑物”是可数名词,由several修饰,用复数。故building改为buildings。
6.考查动词时态。句意:在那之后,我们将去看一些木偶剧。根据上下文提到的will可知,讲述了将来要发生的事情,用一般将来时,we是复数,be动词用are。故将were
改为are。
7.考查副词。句意:你会印象很深刻的。修饰动词,应用副词作状语。故great改为greatly。
8.考查定语从句。句意:最后,我们会品尝一些特别的小吃,真的很美味。分析句子可知,此处是非限制性定语从句,that不能引导非限制性定语从句,先行词是snacks,指物,用关系代词which引导。故that改为which。
9.考查介词和固定短语。句意:顺便说一下,提前简要了解儒家文化将是很有帮助的。固定短语in
advance“提前”。故on改为in。
10.考查形容词。句意:请务必及时到达指定的地点。修饰名词用形容词,appointed“指定的;约定的”符合语境。故appointing改为appointed。

Restore
Our
Earth
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Restore
Our
Earth
With
an
increasing
number
of
disasters
taking
place
and
infectious
diseases
spreading
around
the
globe,
it
is
time
to
consider
how
to
reduce
them
seriously.
In
my
opinion,
restoring
our
earth
is
a
vital
part
of
cutting
down
destructive
disasters.
But
why
and
how
to
accomplish
it?
As
we
know,
it
is
apparently
human
activities
that
destroy
nature
in
a
profound
way
causing
disasters
and
diseases.
Therefore,
while
tackling
global
crises
requires
the
joint
efforts,
it
is
a
bounden
duty
for
everyone
to
take
action
to
solve
this
problem.
Personally,
first,
we
should
reduce
using
everyday
items
made
of
materials
that
may
result
in
pollution,
such
as
paper
or
plastic
bags.
Instead,
we
can
use
bags
made
of
cloth
repeatedly.
Second,
we
should
help
cut
down
greenhouse
gas
emission
by
going
to
school
or
work
by
bike
or
public
transportation
instead
of
driving
car
all
the
time.
Third,
we
can
save
energy
or
resources
by
turning
off
electric
appliance
like
air
conditioners
or
lights
if
not
necessary
no
matter
we
are
in
public
places
or
at
home.
Only
by
joint
efforts
of
every
single
person
can
we
contribute
to
restoring
our
earth.
So,
let’s
move.
