We use ‘can’ to say that we are able to
do something. We use ‘could’ to say that
we were able to do something in the past.

I can row a boat now,
but I couldn’t row a boat last

I can row it now.
I couldn’t row it last year.
A: Can you ride a bike
B: Yes, I can. No, I can’t.

B: Yes, I could. /No, I couldn’t.
We use ‘can’ or ‘could’ to say that something is possible. ‘Could’ talks about a smaller chance than ‘can’. When we say that something was possible in the past, we only use ‘could’. However, we cannot use ‘can’/ ‘could’ to talk about the chances that something will certainly happen in the future.
