Unit 5 Music 音 乐
Michael Jackson and Rock Music
Michael Jackson is the King of Pop.This is not a title that he gave himself. It was given to him by his millions of fans around the world
and by his peers, among whom he has no equal. No other performer in history has received as many awards as he has. There has never been one like him before, and there will never be one like him again.
Michael became a superstar at an age when most other children are learning things like the alphabet and how to count to 20.Born on August 29,1958 he was the seventh child in a family of nine. His father formed a singing group out of his sons and called them The Jackson 5(Jackie,Tito,Jermaine,and Marlon). The group quickly began turning out hit after hit for their new record and then Michael began a successful solo recording career after he left his brothers.
In March of 2009,Michael announced that he would be performing his last concert in London.Sadly, the “This Is It” tour was not meant to be.Just two weeks before opening night,on June 25,2009 Michael Jackson was taken to the hospital with an apparent heart attack.Only moments later came the horrifying news that the King of Pop was,in fact,gone...
Rock Music, group of related music styles that have controlled popular music in the West since about 1955.Rock music began in the United States, but it has influenced and in turn been shaped by a broad field of cultures and musical traditions, including gospel music (灵乐),the blues, country and western music, classical music, folk music, electronic music, and the popular music of Asia,Africa, and Latin America.
In addition to its use as a broad designation, the term rock music commonly refers to music styles after 1959 mainly influenced by white musicians. While innovations in rock music have often occurred in regional centers—such as New York City,Kingston,Jamaica and Liverpool,England—the influence of rock music is now felt worldwide.
