T: Most teenagers in our country have few life skills, such as cooking and washing clothes. And because most of them are the only child in the family, they depend heavily on their parents to do everything for them. Is it true to you Some may say yes. Some may disagree with me. If you are independent, then you are great. Keep it a habit and your parents will be very proud of you. Next we are going to listen to the passage and try to get the main idea and choose from the four choices below the passage.
Then ask students to read the passage the answer the questions in activities 3 and 4.
Check the answers with the class.

I feel an empty stomach near the dinner time.
Because it’s easier to burn soup.

I depend on my parents greatly / heavily to prepare meals and cook meals, etc.

My mother wakes me up at 6:30 and then I get up. She makes breakfast for me and prepares school things for me.
My father drives me school and takes my school bag for me till we get to the classroom.
Then ask students to decide if they agree or disagree with the writer’s opinion.
Sample version:
I can’t agree. I think it’s the best time for us to practice doing daily activities during the holiday. First we have enough time to do this; second, we have friends to help us or we can learn these life skills on TV or Internet.
After this, ask students to write a short passage describing what they would do or wouldn’t do if their parents are not around.
Sample version:
I would watch TV or play video games but I wouldn’t be able to cook food. I would be able do my homework myself but I wouldn’t be able to decide if I did right or wrong. I’d miss my parents, but I think would be able to look after Mimi and Bob and myself well.

II. Are you dreaming of a perfect holiday
The holidays are a magical time of year. A time of year when families and friends gather together to give thanks for their blessings and to share in the joy of the season. Do you dream of sailing around the world Or travelling through Africa or Asia What is your idea of a truly perfect vacation
1. I dreamt summer dreams, slept summer nights, and saw summer stars with my friends. I camped summer days in the rain, I smelt the sweet perfume of the rose on my birthday. I saw the clear blue skies in the summer afternoons of July. I watched the shuttles take off, I saw the fire works glaze in the sky. I watched the flowers bloom and bloom in my summer afternoon. As summer neared an end I remembered all my friends. Soon, they'll be in school and my summer will be a memory till next summer’s fun days.
2. We went to a bridge that went under the ocean. We went through Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas. Then to Springfield, Missouri. We went to our uncle’s house to stay. In the morning we went hunting. We didn't catch anything. The next morning we bought a horse named Silent Fox’s Image. Then we left and came back to Florida.
3. My perfect holiday would be in a world of adventure and excitement! A place where you can let your imagination go wild. You could eat all the lollies you wanted. You could fly with wings. You could swim among great beautiful fish, slide down 50m tall water slides. Play all different games with anyone you wanted. Roller-coasters, gum-ball machines with gum-balls the size of elephants and you wouldn't even have to pay. A place where you could talk to the animals and they would talk back to you. But even if you never get to go to an adventure as great as this, at least, you have a great imagination to imagine it!
