One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem inability to read.
In the library, I found my way into the 揅hildren抯 Room. I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random(随意地). The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle(小猎犬). I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle. Without opening the book titled Amos, the Beagle with a Plan, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book.
My mother抯 call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone knew I could not read. But I had read it. Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was going to read them.
I never told my mother about my “miraculous” (奇迹般地) experience that summer, but she saw a slow but remarkable(显著的) improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was awarded a PhD in literature, and authored his own books, articles, poetry and fiction. The power of the words has held.

A.it contained pretty pictures of animals

A.The author’s mother rewarded him with books.
B.The author’s mother read the same book.
C.The author has had happy summers ever since.
D.The author has become a successful writer.
27.Which one could be the best title of the passage?
A.My Passion for Reading
B.The Charm(魅力) of a Book

With the development of our society, cell phones have become a common part in our lives.
Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Maybe they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on We Chat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new 搒pecies of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name梡hubbers(低头族).
? ? ? ?Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities(身份) bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes a selfie(自拍) in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events finally leads to the destruction of the world.
燗lthough the ending of the film sounds unrealistic, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. 揂lways bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck, Guangming Daily quoted doctors words. 揟he neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching. Also, staring at cell phones for a long time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
燘ut that抯 not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. When getting together with family or friends, many people prefer to play their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
營t can also cost your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.
Why does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragraph 2?
A. To suggest phubbers will destroy the world.
B. To tell people of the bad effects of phubbing.
C. To call for people to go walking without phones.
D. To advise students to create more cartoons like this.
29. According to the passage, what risks may a phubber have?
①Destructing the world.
②Affecting his social skills.
③Damaging his neck and eyesight.
④Getting separated from his friends and family.
A. ?①②③④ B. ②③④ C. ①③④ D. ①②④
30. What’s the author’s attitude towards phubbing?
A. Supportive. B. Confident. C. Disapproving. D. Optimistic.
31. What will be talked about in the following paragraph?
A. Methods of phubbing.
B. Bad effects of phudding.
C. Ways to avoid the risks of phubbing.
D. Daily life of phubbers.
D
Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature. Using the chance
of studying abroad in my second year at college, I decided to go to Canada just because I wanted to see the beautiful phenomena there. So after I finished the study program, I went to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories.
I clearly remember the sixth night in Yellowknife. Suddenly my host mother came to my room around 8 p.m. and told me to change clothes and go outside quickly carrying her camera.
The northern lights were flickering (闪烁) in the sky! I was shocked and just stood there with my mouth open. I forgot to take pictures of the mysterious lights.
Since that night, whenever it was sunny, I went outside at night and looked at the sky. It was so cold that I lost all feeling in my hands and feet.
As I took pictures of the northern lights, I came to find a characteristic movement of the lights. They first appear in the north part of the sky and then they gradually come down to the south part of the sky. After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen. Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures.
The stronger the sun acts, the better and stronger the northern lights flicker in the sky. That’s because they come about from the collisions (碰撞) between atmospheric gases and the solar wind. Much more solar wind comes to the earth when the sun is active, which leads to the best northern lights. And the colors of the northern lights depend on the height of the collisions and the kinds of gases.
32. Why did the host mother ask the author to go out?
A.She wanted to take a picture of her.
B.She wanted to take a walk with him.
C.She wanted him to see the northern lights.
D.She wanted to tell him something important.
33. The author forgot to take pictures after going out because ______.
A.he was shocked by the wonderful sight
B.the host mother didn’t remind him to take the camera
C.the lights flickering in the sky disappeared too soon
D.he lost all feeling in his hands and feet
34. When is the best time to see the northern lights?
A.When they appear in the north part of the sky.
B.When they are between the north and south.
C.When they come down to the south part of the sky.
D.When they rise in the east part of the sky.
35. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A.Ways to take good pictures.
B.The time of the best northern lights.
C.The colors of the northern lights.
D.The relationship between the sun and the northern lights.

作文
Hello everyone!
I'm Li Hua. On behalf of the Students’ Union, I’d like to appeal to everyone to protect our environment in an environmental- friendly way.
As we all know, with the development of economy, cars have become popular in ordinary families. More and more students can enjoy the convenience that private cars bring by taking them to school, which cause problems such as air pollution, noise pollution and traffic jams at the same time.
So what can we students do to help deal with these problems? As far as I am concerned, we can ride a bike to school instead of taking a car. In this way, not only can we do our part in environmental protection, but also we can build up our bodies. It is our small actions that count.
That's all. Thank you.
