Lesson 14 Colors and Feelings
I. Teaching and learning goals
a. Be able to know and use the words: question, sick, smile, mean.
b. Instruct the students to express their feelings with colors.
c. Teach the students how to answer YES\NO questions and W\H questions.
II. Key points in teaching and learning
Culture differences in expressing feelings with colors.
Around the world ,colors have different meanings when they are used to express people抯 feelings and emotions, and the same color has different meanings in different cultures.
Encourage the students to grasp more words about human抯 emotions, for example, sad, cared, angry, excited, shy and etc.
III. Difficult points in learning
Inspire the students to master the sentence patterns:
I feel blue.
In English we use many colors for our feelings.
Yellow can mean 搒cared. And red can mean angry.
In China, red is a happy color.
Don抰 feel bad.
IV. Teaching and learning procedure
Step 1. Lead-in
Lead-in by discussing the following questions:
What is Li Ming doing?
What does blue mean?
3. What does red mean in China?
Show some pictures of different feelings to the students. Let them discuss the questions in groups. Then present their results in class. The styles can be dialogues or reports.
Step 2. Listening
Listen to the tape and fill in the blanks with the words you hear.
The singer says he feels ______.
In English, we use many colors for _______.
Red can mean _______ in English.
Finish the task in class orally.
Step3. Reading
Read the text and answer the following questions:
What does blue mean in English?
What does yellow mean in English?
What does red mean in China?
Finish the task in class orally, then compare the meanings of different colors in China and in English-speaking countries by learning the CULTURE TIPS.
Step4. Practice
Make sentences with the language points:
use... for... We can use colors for feelings; He uses a pen to write.
Don’t be+adj. Don’t be late. Don’t +v. Don’t talk in class.
Pair work: Complete LET’S DO IT No.4.
Step5. Class closing
Chant. Present the group chant THE COLORS OF OUR FEELINGS.
Assign home work: Complete LET’S DO IT Ex.2 and Ex. 3.
