work on是一个动词短语，on为介词。表示“从事某项工作；做某项工作/研究；创作作品、作画；开机器等”。
拓展：work on sb./sth. 奏效，产生预期的结果
翻译：这些药片对治疗咳嗽很有效果。

finish在此为及物动词，意为“完成”，后常接名词、代词、动词-ing形式，不可接不定式。

“neither+助动词/系动词/情态动词+主语”表示上句否定的情况也适合于后者。
二、neither的用法
【拓展】neither 也不，两者都不。
固定搭配 neither…nor…意为“既不……也不……”，此短语常连接两个并列主语，谓语动词遵循“就近原则”。
