指导思想和理论依据：
《英语课程标准》针对初中生英语阅读能力做出具体要求：
(四级要求)：
能连贯、流畅地朗读课文；
能读懂说明文等应用文体的材料；
能从简单的文章中找出有关信息，理解大意；
能根据上下文猜测生词的意思；
能理解并解释图表提供的信息；
能理解简易读物中的时间发生顺序和人物行为；
能读懂简单的个人信件；
能英汉词典等工具书帮助阅读理解；
除教材外，课外阅读量应累计达到10万词以上。
(五级要求)：
能根据上下文和构词法推断、理解生词的含义；
能理解段落中各句子之间的逻辑关系；
能找出文章中的主体，理解故事的情节，预测故事情节的发展和可能的结局；
能读懂常见体裁的阅读材料；
能根据不同的阅读目的运用简单的阅读策略获取信息；

学情分析：
本节课的教学对象是淮北市第二中学八年级学生。英语语言基础较好，阅读能力强；学习热情教高，乐于集体探索研究，课堂积极配合教师进行语言活动。
本班学生绝大多数是城镇户口，平时周末课外补习较多，艺体特长训练也很频繁。所以学生们对压力问题感触很深，共鸣处颇多。针对此情况，英语教师可以顺利展开本课阅读话题。
学生已有语言知识水平：根据Units(1-3)语言点，八年级学生已经掌握了情态动词could,couldn’t以及引申拓展的情态动词should，shouldn’t的用法。表示建议的句型“Why
don’t
you...?”学生们可以利用所学语言点谈论解决压力的问题的建议。八年级学生已经掌握一些基本的阅读技能，但是就篇章推断，个别生词词义还有其他的一些阅读策略学生们还需要下功夫学习。
学生的学习困难：生词量大，语篇较长，段落大意总结。
