Ⅱ.完形填空(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
Numbers in different countries may have different meanings. In China, some people think that some numbers bring them 16 . Take “8” for example, the Chinese pronunciation of the number “8” has almost the 17 sound as that of the Chinese character “发”, which means making a fortune. So, many Chinese people spend a lot of 18 to get their telephone numbers or car numbers with this number “8”. They believe without 19 doubt(疑问) that the number will bring them money. ?
20 , others don’t believe that numbers have anything to do with good luck. They think such an idea is only an ignorant(愚昧的) and superstitious(迷信的) belief. A number is one thing, and good luck is 21 . They will ask, “ 22 can you ever have any good luck simply because of some lucky numbers, even if you don’t work hard, don’t have good chances and don’t get along well with the people around you?” ?
As for me, I 23 with the latter(后者). Clearly, lucky numbers are only a kind of superstition. Perhaps it holds true in a way, but often it does not. Numbers can 24 bring good luck to a person at all and our fortune is in our own hands. So, everyone can have a good fortune only if he tries his best. Let’s always remember “Chances are only for the 25 mind.” and “No pain, no gain.” ?

Ⅲ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
Gift-giving is different from culture to culture and person to person.
When people give gifts, sometimes colour is important. For example, for many Chinese people around the world, red is a lucky colour, and people often like to wrap gifts in red. However, do you know that in South Korea, red is a colour of death? That is why you should not wrap your gifts in this colour if you are giving a gift to a person there.
What about Western countries? In Western countries, the colour of wrapping paper is not really important. But colour does matter when giving flowers, especially roses. You should not give red roses to a Western person you don’t know very well because they are a symbol of love. You could give yellow roses instead, as these are a symbol of friendship. You could also send pink roses as gifts to say thank you.
What other things should you remember when giving gifts to someone from a different culture? Well, one thing you should keep in mind is the person’s religion. When choosing a gift for a Muslim(穆斯林的) or Jewish(犹太教的) friend, you should never get food including pork, or things made from pigskin. Another thing that you should not get for a Muslim person is alcohol(酒).

C.We cannot give a Muslim friend a bottle of alcohol as a gift.
D.We can give a Jewish friend some pork as a gift.
( )30.What’s the main idea of this passage?
A.Gift-giving is connected with cultural differences.
B.When people give gifts, colour is important.
C.How to choose gifts for different people.
D.How to send gifts to others.

He wears a suit(西服) and tie. He speaks very well and he’s polite. He’ll smile at you when he says “Good afternoon”. He travels a lot. He is a “man of the world”. He is interested in different cultures and speaks different languages. He likes sports, both playing and watching, especially cricket(板球) and rugby(英式橄榄球).
Who is he? He’s an English gentleman!
He’s always polite. Or is he? The great Irish writer Oscar Wilde said that a gentleman is never rude(粗鲁的) to anybody…without wanting to be!
In the past, a gentleman in England was a man who came from a good family. He went to one of the best schools and he was rich and smart. He didn’t work. He didn’t need to.
These days, however, a “gentleman” means any man who is kind and polite. “Thank you. You’re a gentleman.” means “You’re a nice guy!”
So if the English gentleman is quite old-fashioned(老派的), is there still such a person today? Well, the UK’s Country Life Magazine says there is. In 2016 the magazine wrote about how to be a “modern gentleman”. Their advice includes turning off your phone at dinner and singing well in church!

Americans are very direct people. When they want something they say “yes” and when they don’t they say “no”. If they want something different from what is given, they will ask for it. Here’s an example. I arrive at someone’s house and he gives me wine. I don’t want wine. Maybe I don’t like it or maybe I just don’t want it. I will say, “No, thanks.” If everyone around me is drinking something, I would ask for something else, “No, thanks. But I’ll take a bit of tea if you have some.” If I really want wine, I would just say, “Yes, thank you.” Unless(除非) they happen to know the Chinese customs, Westerners will not ask you again and again after you have said you don’t want it.
根据上文内容判断正(T)误(F)。
( )36.If Americans want something, they would say, “No, thanks.”

May 27th Wednesday Sunny
When I took the underground back home after school, I noticed a boy on the train. He was not feeling very well and suddenly began to vomit on the floor. At the same time, a young woman in good clothes noticed him and helped clean the floor. The boy was very thankful for her kindness. However, when the train arrived at the station, some people pushed towards the seats as soon as the train stopped, while some of the passengers couldn’t get off the train. Someone even had a quarrel about it.
These two things impressed me very much. If we all act like the young woman and think more of others, I think our world will be a much more beautiful place.
