Halloween is a great time in the lives of both children and adults. However, even the best Halloween can be ruined by trees filled with toilet paper and egg residues(残渣)that won't wash of. How can you keep your home safe on Halloween? There are some measures you can take.
Make it known that you're at home. Pranksters are less likely to play a trick if they know someone is at home. You may want to close the glass on your screen door and open your front door so that you can see everyone moving around outside. This also allows pranksters to see that you're at home.
Turn on the lights inside your home and outside. Having all the lights on lets pranksters know that you're not only at home, but you're awake. If a prankster knows you're awake, he'll be more likely to skip (快速溜走)your house and head for another one. Even if you need to get in bed early, keep all the lights on except in your bedroom. Pranksters aren't going to know which room is your bedroom.
Ask the police to patrol the area. It's a policeman's job to keep citizens safe, especially on Halloween. In some cities the crime rate can increase fast on October 31. A polite call to your local police station should get you the service you need. Above all, no pranksters are going to throw eggs at your house when the policemen are patrolling the area.
Set up a neighborhood watch. One of the best ways to keep your home safe on Halloween is to get the neighbors involved. No one wants his trees covered with toilet paper. Ask your neighbors to keep their eyes open and to follow the same steps you've taken to help keep your home safe. If the entire neighborhood is lit up, pranksters are less likely to stop by.
5. The underlined word 揚ranksters in Paragraph 2 probably means those who____________.
A. like Halloween very much B. play practical jokes on people
C. often commit a crime at night D. enter one's house by force
6. How can you make pranksters know you are at home and skip your house?
A. By moving around outside your house.
B. By closing your front door.
C. By turning on inside and outside lights.
D. By keeping your house quiet and dark.
7. According to the fourth paragraph, we can learn____________.
A. a policeman's main task is to patrol the area
B. the crime rate increases fast in some cities
C. you have to pay for a policeman to patrol your area
D. the policemen can help a lot with your home safety on Halloween
8. The last paragraph stresses the importance of____________.
A. neighborhood teamwork B. keeping homes safe
C. being on one's guard D. informing every one of the danger

Theater is one of the oldest and most important art forms in world culture, it is also one of the richest art forms. Many people work together to bring a play to life. There are playwrights, directors, set designers, costumers, lighting technicians, and, of course, actors. If the performance is a musical, the skills of a songwriter, a choreographer, and musicians are also required. The excitement of opening night can be felt by the people waiting to watch a performance and by the performers and workers backstage waiting for the curtain to go up. Live theater is thrilling because no one really knows how well the play will go until it is performed.
The word theater comes from the Greek theatron, which means 揳 place for seeing. One concept from Greek theater that is still seen in some plays today is the 揋reek Chorus. This consists of several actors or characters watching the action of the play(almost like the audience) and then commenting on what whey just saw with either reactions or dialogue.
Although most people think of the theater in terms of a play performed on the stage, theater has taken on a much broader meaning in the modern world. You may find yourself walking into a theater with no seats in the rows. Instead, you are seated among the set pieces, which makes you part of the setting. Sometimes theater may come to life on a street corner, or in a classroom. The excitement of theater is in its very nature----it is an art form that changes as it is interpreted(诠释) in different ways by different people. That is probably why the works of the greatest playwright of all time, William Shakespeare, are still performed and enjoyed today, both in classic and new interpretations.
9. What does the word 搑ichest in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. diverse. B. wealthy. C. terrifying. D. entertaining.
10. Why is live theater so exciting according to the text?
A. Plays are usually well written. B. It is often interpreted by skilled actors.
C. No one can predict its success or failure. D. There are so many people working on it.
11. What is suggested about the plays of Shakespeare in the text?
A. They are more often given new interpretations today than in the past.
B. They are more popular today than during Shakespeare s time.
C. They will always be considered the world抯 greatest.
D. They have been performed in a variety of ways.
12. What is the best title for the text?
A. A vital part of theater: Greek Chorus B. Modern theater: adventures in acting
C. Shakespeare: our greatest playwright D. Theater: an exciting art form

9. What does the word “richest” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. diverse. B. wealthy. C. terrifying. D. entertaining.
10. Why is live theater so exciting according to the text?
