The
sun
is
going
to
expand
into
the
orbit
of
Mercury
according
to
scientific
calculations,
which
will
result
in
the
entire
Earth
catching
on
fire.
Who
will
save
the
world?
This
imaginative
tale
is
at
the
heart
of
the
latest
Chinese
sci-fi
movie
The
Wandering
Earth.
Unlike
many
American
space-themed
films
where
the
solution
to
a
disaster
Earth
faces
is
always
fleeing
(逃离)
the
planet
in
spaceships,
this
time
we’re
taking
the
Earth
with
us.
The
film,
which
has
made
it
the
country's
most
successful
film
of
all
time,
has
offered
a
different
and
more
ambitious
idea.
The
“ambition”
didn’t
come
from
nowhere.
For
thousands
of
years,
homeland
has
had
a
soft
spot
in
the
hearts
and
minds
of
Chinese
people.
One
old
idiom
that
shows
a
strong
feeling
that
Chinese
people
have
had
for
their
homeland
is
搇uoyeguigen,
which
means
returning
to
one抯
homeland
in
old
age,
like
fallen
leaves
returning
to
the
roots
of
their
tree.
“What
is
Chinese
sci-fi?”
Guo
Fan,
the
film’s
director,
said
in
an
interview.
“A
vehicle
that
really
expresses
our
cultural
and
spiritual
core
(

can
be
called
Chinese
sci-fi.
Otherwise,
we’re

the

its
Chinese

The
film
was
released
on
Feb

Chinese
New

It
was
a
time
when
many
people
had
just
made
the
hard
journey
back
to
their
hometowns.
So
to
them,
there
is
only
one
possible
way
to
tell
the
story:
Earth
goes
wherever
humans
go,
because
it抯
our

One
morning
more
than
thirty
years
ago,
I
entered
the
Track
Kitchen,
a
restaurant
where
everyone
from
the
humblest(卑微的)
to
the
most
powerful
came
for
breakfast.
I
noticed
an
empty
chair
next
to
an
elderly,
unshaven
man,
who
looked
somewhat
disheveled.
He
was
wearing
a
worn-out
hat
and
was
alone.
I
asked
if
I
might
join
him.
He
agreed
quietly
and
I
sat
down
to
have
my
breakfast.
We
cautiously
began
a
conversation
and
spoke
about
a
wide
range
of
things.
We
never
introduced
ourselves.
I
was
concerned
that
he
might
have
no
money
and
not
be
able
to
afford
something
to
eat.
So
as
I
rose
to
go
back
to
the
counter
and
buy
a
second
cup
of
coffee,
I
asked,
揗ay
I
get
you
something?
揂
coffee
would
be
nice.
Then
I
bought
him
a
cup
of
coffee,
We
talked
more,
and
he
accepted
another
cup
of
coffee,
Finally,
I
rose
to
leave,
wished
him
well,
and
headed
for
the
exit.
At
the
door
I
met
one
of
my
friends.
He
asked,
揌ow
did
you
get
to
know
Mr.
Galbreath?
揥ho?
揟he
man
you
were
sitting
with.
He
is
chairman
of
the
Board
of
Churchill
Downs.
I
could
hardly
believe
it.
I
was
buying,
offering
a
free
breakfast,
and
feeling
pity
for
one
of
the
world抯
richest
and
most
powerful
men!
My
few
minutes
with
Mr.
Galbreath
changed
my
life.
Now
I
try
to
treat
everyone
with
respect,
no
matter
who
I
think
they
are,
and
to
meet
another
human
being
with
kindness
and
sincerity.

Researchers
are
looking
into
new
ways
to
generate
efficient
photovoltaic
energy
(光伏能源)
and
for
this
they
have
been
inspired
by
the
v-shaped
posture
of
the
Cabbage
White
butterfly
(菜粉蝶).
Photovoltaic
energy
is
the
science
behind
solar
power,
where
light
is
turned
into
electricity.
It
is
a
two-step
process.
Step
one
is
a
photoelectric
effect,
caused
by
sunlight.
The
second
step
is
an
electrochemical
process,
which
generates
an
electric
current.
To
improve
the
collection
of
sunlight,
a
research
group
has
been
inspired
by
the
resting
posture
of
the
Cabbage
White
butterfly.
The
species
has
a
natural
range
across
Europe,
Asia,
and
North
Africa.
To
many
farmers,
the
butterflies
are
regarded
as
a
pest;
to
others,
they
are
pretty
to
look
at.
To
one
research
group
the
butterflies
are
an
inspiration.
The
butterfly
adopts
a
v-shape
in
order
to
heat
up
its
flight
muscles
before
taking
off.
By
creating
solar
panels(太阳能电池板)in
this
formation,scientists
think
that
the
quantity
of
power
that
a
solar
panel
can
produce
can
be
increased
by
around
50
percent.
The
Cabbage
White
butterfly
is
different
to
many
other
butterflies
in
using
the
v-formation.
On
cloudy
days
butterflies
need
to
wait
to
receive
enough
sunlight
in
order
to
fly.
However,
by
using
the
v-posture,
the
Cabbage
White
butterfly
is
able
to
take
in
more
energy
more
quickly
than
other
butterflies.
In
addition,
the
butterfly
can
reflect
sunlight
from
its
wings,
which
allows
its
flight
muscles
to
be
warmed
to
an
ideal
temperature.
The
new
research
was
conducted
at
the
University
of
Exeter's
Environment
and
Sustain
--ability
Institute
(ESI)
and
the
Centre
for
Ecology
and
Conservation.
Discussing
the
findings
with
Laboratory
Manager
magazine,
lead
researcher
Professor
Tapas
Mallick
stated
:"Biomimicry(仿生学)in
engineering
is
not
new.
However,
this
research
shows
pathways
to
develop
low
cost
solar
power
that
have
not
been
done
before.

Good
learners
can
inspire
students
or
anybody
to
learn
well.
Here
are
some
characteristics
of
good
learners.
Good
learners
are
curious.
They
wonder
about
all
sorts
of
things,
often
about
knowledge
beyond
their
areas
of
expertise(专长).
36
Finding
out
about
something
they
didn’t
know
satisfies
them
for
the
moment,
but
their
curiosity
is
addictive.
Good
learners
don抰
give
up
easily.
A
few
things
may
come
easily
to
learners
but
most
knowledge
arrives
after
effort.
37
They
try
to
search
out
new
information.
They
read,
analyze,
and
evaluate
the
information
they抳e
found.
Then
they
study
more
and
work
at
what
they
don抰
understand.
Good
learners
know
that
a
lot
of
learning
isn抰
fun.
The
journey
to
understanding
generally
isn抰
all
that
exciting
38
Others
need
a
tiresome
attention
to
detail,
and
still
others
need
periods
of
intense
mental
focus.
Your
backs
hurt,
your
arms
and
legs
get
tired,
and
your
coffee
gets
cold.
39
There
憇
always
more
to
know.
Good
learners
are
never
satisfied
with
how
much
they
know
about
anything.
They
are
pulled
around
by
questions梩he
ones
they
still
can抰
answer,
or
the
ones
without
very
good
answers.
Those
questions
follow
them
like
day
follows
night
with
the
answers
bringing
daylight.
Good
learners
share
what
they抳e
learned.
Good
learners
are
teachers
committed
to
sharing
with
others
what
they抳e
learned.
40
Good
learners
can
also
explain
what
they
know
in
ways
that
make
sense
to
others.
They
are
connected
to
the
knowledge
passed
on
to
them
and
committed
to
leaving
what
they抳e
learned
with
others.
A.
Some
learning
tasks
require
boring
repetition.
B.
Good
learners
are
willing
to
put
in
the
time.
C.
Some
knowledge
can
broaden
our
views.
D.
Good
learners
stay
positive.
E.
They
write
about
it,
and
talk
about
it.
F.
They
love
the
discovery
part
of
learning.
G.Good
learners
never
run

of
questions.

Dear
Mom
and
Dad,
Tomorrow
is
my
birthday
and
the
annual

is
around
the

On
this
special
occasion,
how
I
wish
I
could
have
a
heart-to-heart
talk
with
you.
Through
those
years
of
my
growing

I
always
feel
grateful
to
you
for
your

help,
care
and
love
for
me.
Thanks
to
your
constant
encouragement,
I
have

It
will
be
less
than
three
months
before
I
take
the
College

which
makes
me
under
great
pressure.
So
I
need
your

Besides,
I
would
like
to
talk
more
with
you
so
that
I
will
be
always

a
good
state
to

every

Mom

Dad,
I
am
fully
aware
of
the

I

I
plan
to
make
a

so
that
I

and
practice
solving

of
different

It
is
also
necessary
for
me
to
do
some
physical

so
that
I
can
keep
fit.
If

I

also

do
some

I

She's

a

I'd
love
to

lecture,
since
she's
quite
an
expert
in
language
teaching.
I
don't
have
any

W:
Well,
there
is
nothing
serious
wrong
with
you,
I'm
glad
to
say.
You're
working
too
hard
and
worrying
too
much.
Do
you
exercise
often?
M:
No,
doctor.
I
never
have
time
for
exercise.
I
go
to
work
very
early
in
the
morning
and
come
back
very
late.
Then
I
can't
go
to
sleep.
Can
you
give
me
some
medicine
to
help
me
sleep?
W:
I
can,
but
I'm
not
going
to.
You
don't
need
medicine.
You
need
advice.
Don't
work
so
hard,
because
that
much
work
is
bad
for
you.
And
don't
spend
time
worrying
about
your
work.
Take
time
instead
to
exercise
every
day.
M:
But
I
may
lose
my
job
doctor!
It's
hard
to
get
a
job
like
mine.
W:
Then
find
an
easier
one,
even
if
you
have
to
make
a
little
less
money.
Which
do
you
think
is
more
important,
health
or
wealth?
Text

W:
Tom,
can
you
please
tell
us
how
it
happened?
M:
Sure.
I
was
climbing
a
mountain
in
New
Hampshire,
when
suddenly
the
weather
became
really
bad.
There
was
a
lot
of
snow,
and
we
couldn't
see
anything.
We've
got
lost.
Well,
we
spend
four
days
on
the
mountain
in
temperatures
around
20
degrees
below
zero.
What's
worse,
we
didn't
have
any
equipment
or
food.
W:
So
what
happened?
Did
someone
find
you
later
or
did
you
finally
manage
to
get
out
on
your
own?
M:
Someone
found
us,
but
we
were
all
in
very
bad
shape
.
I
couldn't
move
my
legs
because
of
the
cold.
I
spend
two
months
in
the
hospital.
The
doctors
finally
have
to
remove
my
legs.
W:
So
you
lost
your
legs,
but
you
still
wanted
to
stay
active.
M:
That's
right.
In
fact,
I
decided
to
make
some
new
legs
for
myself.
I’m
now
certain
that
no
one
has
to
be
physically
disabled.
We
can
use
modern
technology
to
help
us.
W:
And
you
built
these
great
new
legs.
Can
you
go
mountain
climbing
again?
M:
Yes
I
can.
In
fact,
these
are
better
than
climbing
shoes.
Their
spring
design
makes
them
much
more
powerful.

Peter
had
come
to
the
US
to
improve
his
English.
He
had
learned
the
language
for
six
years
in
his
own
country
and
he
could
understand
written
English
quite
well.
What
he
needed
above
all
was
to
practice
his
conversation.
He
entered
a
school
for
foreign
students
and
the
school
found
him
a
home
with
the
local
family.
The
family
was
pleasant
and
friendly;
he
was
happy
to
discover
that
there
was
a
pretty
daughter,
only
a
month
or
so
older
than
he
was.
That
first
day,
just
after
arriving,
he
was
excited.
A
few
days
later,
however,
when
his
class
teacher,
Johnny
Denver,
ask
him
how
he
was
getting
along,
he
had
to
admit
that
he
felt
a
little
disappointed.
“By
Sunday,”
said
Peter,
“I
will
have
been
here
for
two
weeks,
but
I
had
very
little
opportunity
to
practice
conversation.”
“Aren't
you
leaving
with
the
local
family?”
said
Mr.
Denver.
“Yes
I
am,”
replied
Peter,
“but
they
are
always
busy.”
“Aren't
there
any
young
people
in
the
family?”
“Yes,
there's
a
daughter
of
16.
But
she
leaves
home
at
eight
o'clock
in
the
morning,
and
she
spends
every
evening
with
her
friends.”
