Experts
hope
an
experimental
drug
can
be
as
effective
against
the
novel
coronavirus
in
people
as
it
has
been
on
cells
in
a
controlled
lab
environment.
The
US
drug,
remdesivir(瑞德西韦),began
clinical
trials
on
patients
in
Wuhan,
Hubei
province,on
Wednesday.Other
medications,including
chloroquine,
arbidol
and
darunavir
have
also
recently
been
found
capable
of
arresting
viral
growth
in
lab
cells,but
like
remdesivir
they
require
more
clinical
trials
to
confirm
their
safety
and
potency
on
humans.
The
Phase
III
trials
for
remdesivir
have
been
approved
by
China’s
National
Medical

and
will
be
conducted
by
the

Friendship

in

and
the
Chinese
Academy
of
Medical
Sciences
on
patients
at
the
Wuhan

A
total
of

participate
in

trials—one
trial
to
assess
the

on
308
cases
with
mild
or
moderate
infection,and
the
other
on
453
severely
infected
patients,
Cao
Bin,head

in

the
drug
has
yet
to
show
convincing
clinical
evidence
that
it
can
translate
its
positive
in
vitro
results
into
actual
human
patients.Hence,it
will
require
rigorous
clinical
testing,
Cao
said.
A
35-year-old

Gilead
Sciences,the
maker
of
remdesivir,said
in
a
recent
statement
that
it
has
been
working
with
government
agencies
on
the
novel
coronavirus
response
efforts.
However,the
company
stressed
that
remdesivir
is
an
experimental
medicine
that
has
only
been
used
in
a
handful
of
patients
on
compassionate
grounds,“so
we
do
not
have
an
appropriately
robust
understanding
of
the
effect
of
this
drug
to
warrant
broad
use
at
this
time”.
21.Why
does
the
US
drug,remdesivir,
began
clinical
trials?

replace
the
traditional
medicine.

confirm
their
safety
and
potency
on
humans.

America
is
a
mobile
society.Friendships
between
Americans
can
be
close
and
real,
yet
disappear
soon
if
situations
change.Neither
side
feels
hurt
by
this.Both
may
exchange
greetings
for
a
year
or
two,perhaps
a
few
letters
for
a
while—then
no
more.If
the
same
two
people
meet
again
by
chance,even
years
later,they
pick
up
the
friendship.This
can
be
quite
difficult
for
us
Chinese
to
understand,because
friendships
between
us
flower
more
slowly
but
then
may
become
lifelong
feelings,extending(延伸)
sometimes
deeply
into
both
families.
Americans
are
ready
to
receive
us
foreigners
at
their
homes,share
their
holidays,and
their
home
life.They
will
enjoy
welcoming
us
and
be
pleased
if
we
accept
their
hospitality(好客)
easily.
Another
difficult
point
for
us
Chinese
to
understand
Americans
is
that
although
they
include
us
warmly
in
their
personal
everyday
lives,they
don’t
show
their
politeness
to
us
if
it
requires
a
great
deal
of
time.This
is
usually
the
opposite
of
the
practice
in
our
country
where
we
may
be
generous
with
our
time.Sometimes,we,as
hosts,will
appear
at
airports
even
in
the
middle
of
the
night
to
meet
a
friend.We
may
take
days
off
to
act
as
guides
to
our
foreign
friends.Americans,however,express
their
welcome
usually
at
homes,but
truly
can
not
manage
the
time
to
do
a
great
deal
with
a
visitor
outside
their
daily
routine(日常生活).They
will
probably
expect
us
to
get
ourselves
from
the
airport
to
our
own
hotel
by
bus.And
they
expect
that
we
will
phone
them
from
there.Once
we
arrive
at
their
homes,the
welcome
will
be
full,warm
and
real.We
will
find
ourselves
treated
hospitably.
For
Americans,it
is
often
considered
friendlier
to
invite
a
friend
to
their
homes
than
go
to
restaurants,except
for
purely
business
matters.So
accept
their
hospitality
at
home!
28.Who
might
be
the
writer
of
this
passage?
A.An
American.
B.A
Chinese.
C.A
professor.
D.A
student.
29.According
to
the
last
two
paragraphs,what
will
probably
happen
to
us
when
we
arrive
in
America
to
visit
an
American
friend
?
A.We’ll
be
warmly
welcomed
at
the
airport.
B.We’ll
be
offered
a
ride
to
his
home.
C.We’ll
be
treated
hospitably
at
his
home.
D.We’ll

may
be
a
suitable
title
for
this
passage?

questions
about
their
interests,and
just
take
the
time
to
learn
more
about
them.?
Encourage
and
support
your
friends.A
true
friend
always
gives
encouragement
to
his
friends. 35 Never
make
fun
of
or
laugh
at
your
friends
in
front
of

when
they
are
in
trouble.You

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
When
I
was
ten,I
was
suddenly
faced
with
the
suffering
of
moving
from
the
only
home
I
had
ever
known.My
whole
life,brief
as
it
was,had
been
spent
in
that
big
old
house,gracefully
touched
with
the
laughter
and
tears
of
four
generations.
When
the
final
day
came,I
ran
to
the
small
backyard
and
sat
alone,with
tears
welling
up
from
my
heart.Suddenly
I
felt
a
hand
rest
on
my
shoulder.I
looked
up
to
see
my
grandfather.“It
isn’t
easy,is
it,Billy?”he
said
softly,sitting
down
on
the
steps
beside
me.?
“Grandpa,”I
replied
through
my
tears,“how
can
I
ever
say
goodbye
to
you
and
all
my
friends?”
For
a
moment
he
just
stared
off
into
the
apple
trees.“Goodbye
is
such
a
sad
word,”he
said.“It
seems
too
final,too
cold,for
friends
to
use.We
seem
to
have
so
many
ways
of
saying
goodbye
and
they
all
have
one
thing
in
common:sadness.When
you
and
your
friends
must
part,I
want
you
to
reach
deep
within
you
and
bring
back
that
first
e
with
me,my
friend.”he
whispered.?
We
walked,hand
in
hand,to
his
favorite
place
in
the
front
yard,where
a
huge
red
rosebush
sat
noticeably
alone.”Kneeling,he
pulled
me
close.“It
isn’t
just
the
roses
that
are
beautiful,Billy.It’s
that
special
place
in
your
heart
that
makes
them
so.”
His
eyes
met
mine
again.“Billy,I
planted
these
roses
a
long
time
ago—before
your
mother
came
to
the
world.I
put
them
into
the
soil
the
day
my
first
son
was
born.It
was
my
way
of
saying
“thank
you”
to
God.That
boy’s
name
was
Billy,just
like
yours.I
used
to
watch
him
pick
roses
for
his
mother.”I
saw
my
grandfather’s
tears.I
had
never
seen
him
cry
before.His
voice
became
hoarse(沙哑).

M:Grandma,how
many
can
we

W:Let’s
count.First
there’s
your
grandfather
and
me.Then
Rita’s
coming
from
Alabama.And
Robert
and
his
family
will
be
here
from
Illinois.That’s
seven
altogether.
M:How
about
Uncle
Tom?Will
he
come?
W:He’s
in
the
service
now,stationed
in
Germany,so
he
won’t

here.But
Uncle
Larry
just
got
out
of
the
Navy,so
he’ll
come
from
California.
M:Wow,that
will
be
a
big
dinner.We’re
going

pretty
big
turkey

and
a
big
Christmas
tree,too.
(Text

M:Lisa,do
you
know
when
the
Dragon
Boat
Festival
is
celebrated?
W:Well,it’s
celebrated
on
the
fifth
day
of
the
fifth
month
of
the
Chinese
calendar.This
day
is
celebrated
to
commemorate
Qu
Yuan,a
great
scholar
and
poet
of
ancient
China.
M:Wow,you
sound
like
a
professor.Could
you
tell
me
more
about
the
festival?I
need
a
lot
of
information
to
write
a
report.
W:Talking
about
the
festival,we’d
better
start
with
the
death
of
Qu
Yuan.In
278
BC,learning
of
the
capture
of
his
country’s
capital,Qu
Yuan
drowned
himself
in
the
Miluo
River.
M:What
happened
then?
W:Villagers
then
carried
their
dumplings
and
boats
to
the
middle
of
the
river
and
desperately
tried
to
save
him,but
were
unsuccessful.They
beat
drums
to
scare
the
fish
away
from
his
body
and
they
threw
rice
into
the
water
to
offer
food
to
Qu
Yuan
and
to
keep
the
fish
away.The
act
of
racing
to
search
for
his
body
in
boats
gradually
became
the
cultural
tradition
of
dragon
boat
racing,which
is
held
on
the
anniversary
of
his
death
every
year.
M:Oh,that’s
amazing.Do
you
have
some
free
time
this
evening?
W:Yes,why?
M:Let’s
find
some
place
to
have
coffee
and
discuss
the
stories
about
this
festival.
(Text
10)
W:Let
me
tell
you
about
our
worst
experience.Back
in
1982
we
went
to
San
Francisco
for
two
weeks.We
stayed
in
Fairmount
for
most
of
the
trip
and
then
took
a
sight-seeing
trip
to
visit
my
cousin
in
Modesto.After
our
visit
we
decided
not
to
sleep
at
his
house
but
to
find
a
place
on
our
way
back
to
San
Francisco.We
drove
for
a
long
time
and
finally
stopped
at
a
motel
in
the
middle
of
the
night.We
got
to
a
room
and
found
that
the
TV
was
chained
to
the
table
and
we
had
to
get
the
manager
to
operate
the
TV
for
us.After
he
left
a
short
time
later,there
was
a
knock
on
the
door.It
was
the
manager
with
a
roll
of
paper.I
asked
him
what
it
was
for
and
he
said
we
could
use
it
in
the
bathroom.We
had
to
take
a
shower
and
dry
off
with
the
paper.The
unused
ones
had
to
be
brought
back
to
the
office.This
was
quite
difficult
to
accept.We’d
been
used
to
the
good
service
in
Fairmount.

returned
after
several
weeks
in
the
hospital,he
wanted
his
bed
next
to
the
window,where
he
could
see
his
beloved
rosebush.I
noted
how
tired
he
looked.I
took
his
hand
as
gently
as
he
had
once
taken
mine.“Hello,Grandpa,”
I
whispered.His
eyes
slowly
opened,“Hello,my
friend,”with
a
brief
smile
and
he
closed
them
again
and
forever.Suddenly,I
knew
what
he
had
meant
about
never
saying
goodbye—about
refusing
to
give
in
to
sadness.?
