1. 表示说话时正在发生或者进行的动作。

2. 表示在现在相对较长一段时间内正在进行的动作，
但是说话那一刻不一定在做。
He is building his own house.
David is teaching English and learning Chinese
in Beijing.
常与现在进行时连用的时间状语有: now, at the moment。另外, 以Look, Listen等开头的祈使句常常是现在进行时态的句子。

现在进行时与一般现在时的用法区别
一、基本用法不同
1.一般现在时表示现在的状态、经常性或习惯性的动作、主语具备的性格和能力、自然现象、客观事实或普遍真理。
He’s twelve.
I get up at 6:30 every day.
She likes noodles.
They speak French.
The moon goes around the earth.
2. 现在进行时用来表示现在（说话的瞬间）正在进行或发生的动作或表示现阶段正在进行或发生的动作，但是说话那一刻不一定在做。
Look! She is reading under the tree.
二、谓语动词的形式不同
　1. 一般现在时的谓语动词
（1）be动词用is/am /are三种形式。
He is from America. 他来自美国。
（2）实义动词用动词原形或第三人称单数形式。
She sings well. 她唱歌很好听。
2. 现在进行时的谓语动词：be + v.-ing
She is getting ready for Spring Festival.
她正在为春节做准备。
三、时间状语不同
1. 一般现在时常与often, sometimes, always, usually等频 度副词连用，还与every morning/day/week…,on Wednesday, in the morning /afternoon/evening等时间状语连用。
(1) I usually go home on foot.我通常步行回家。
(2) Jim sometimes goes to school by bus.
吉姆有时候乘公共汽车去上学。
(3) We get up at 6:30 in the morning. 我们早上6:30起床。
2. 与now, at the moment, these days, these weeks等时间状语连用，或句首有Look!/Listen!等提示词时，句子中的动词一般用现在进行时。
(1) At the moment, we are doing our homework.
此刻，我们正在做作业。
(2) Betty’s mother is watching TV now.
现在，贝蒂的妈妈正在看电视。
(3) Look! Daming is playing basketball with his
friends. 看！ 大明正在和他的朋友们打篮球。
对比一般现在时和现在进行时：
一般现在时 现在进行时
构成 be (am/ is/ are) 行为动词是动词原形或单三形式 be (am, is / are) + V-ing
意义 表示习惯性或经常性的行为 表正在进行的行为
标志性时间状语 always, often, usually, sometimes, usually, never… now, at the moment, look, listen…
比较以下的例子：
They often come to China for a visit.
They are visiting China.
He cleans his room every day.
He is cleaning his room now.
They have a lot of friends.
They are having a lot of friends.

第一、二人称和复数，动词原形不变换。
当主语是三单时，动词后加s(es)别忘怀。
要变一般疑问句，be动词提前很容易。
若是没有be动词，Do和Does开头要注意。
否定句，很简单，not 在be 动词后面站。
若是没有be动词，do, does加not 要牢记。
